Individual Contribution

Individual Contribution

For this project, I have contributed by working on the journal entries with my groupmate, Li Bing. Both of us discussed it before we finalise and wrote it down. I also helped in checking that the names, amount or anything else that is typed in is correct, especially when the person who is typing is entering in the transactions into the system. Li Bing did the recurring entries and balance day adjustments during the weekend, so when she brought it to school, Sebastian and I checked through once before we entered it into the system. I also helped in entering transactions into the system. All of us take turns to work on the CAS Project. Each of us also worked on a certain number of GL Data Entry Forms, which includes the Opening Balances, Transactions occurring in the month and Balance Day Adjustments. Today, everyone checked through the reports again and helped in attaching stickers(dividers)for our reports.

Soft skills that I have learnt

I've learnt that this project cannot be done by just a single person. Everyone needs to help out to ensure that the project can be completed in time for the dateline. When everyone helped out, we were able to detect more mistakes that we have made and thus made amendments to it.

Also, I learnt that if you have any doubts throughout the project, you should raised it up and clarify it with your group members. Because discussing it with your group members would help to clear your doubts and at the same time serve as a check. This way, it would also help to reduce mistakes made in the project.

Not only that, I learnt that managing our time is very important. This project is very tedious and requires a lot of time for it to be completed. Not only that, because Lab 8 and 9 are not only used for students taking CAS, therefore we can only use the Lab when there are no lessons going on.

The Long Long Process ~

- The Process -

10/6/09

We met up during the holidays to start on the CAS project. The first thing we did was to do all the admin stuffs such as creating accounts, entering in opening balances and creating vendor groups and customers groups. The process was hard and time-consuming because we wasn't very used to the system and have hard time locating the areas that we were supposed to work on. On the later part of the day, we wrote down all the journal entries for the source documents on a piece of paper.

11/06/09

We met up again the next day, and this time we set up the customers and vendors in the AR and AP. Next, we entered the opening balances for them and then we posted it. Lastly, we started entering the GL journal entries into the system.

12/06/09

For today, what we did :

AR Module

1) Created a batch, with entries, for invoices in AR
2) Created a batch, with entries, for sales returns in the AR
3) Created a batch, with entries, for receipts in the AR receipts batch list

AP Module

4) Created a batch, with entries, for purchases in the AP
5) Created a batch, with entries, for purchase returns by the company in the AP
6) Created a batch, with entries, for payments in the AP payment batch list

GL Module

7) Entered in all the GL journal entries into the system

16/06/09

We created recurring entries and balance day adjustments in the General Ledger module, we also re-check through the journal entries and make some amendments to it.

26/06/09

Today, we have our face-to-face meet up tutorial, but we couldnt do anything that day after school as the thumbdrive that contained our backup file was infected with a "deadly" virus.

1/07/09

We did up the GL data entry form for the opening balances, transactions occurring in the month, and balance day adjustments. We also continued and worked on the theory questions together.

15/07/09

We re-check through everyone once more before we post everything in the General Ledger system. Because it's only a few more days away till the dateline for the submission for the project, we decided to print out all the reports that are required for the hardcopy submission.

17/07/09

Today is the day that we were suppose to submit the hardcopy submission for the project. Again, we made some amendments and have to re-print some of the reports.
